1969 WSW Door Actuator Bracket Hardware ?

Was wondering what are the correct nuts/bolt/washers used to attach the windshield wiper door actuator bracket to the firewall. My car is an early (10/1968) '69 with larger type cannister. I checked with Paragon, no luck.
    Thank you in advance.

    Greg------

The fasteners used were a 1/4-20 hex nut that was phosphate finished + a 1/4" internal tooth star washer.

        Joe,
Was the star washer loose or was it 'flanged' onto the nut?
        Thanks,
        Alan

          Alan-----

These are INTERNAL tooth star washers. Internal tooth star washers are not available in a captured assembly with the nut.

Secondly, it really makes no difference from a restoration standpoint. Captured fastener/washer assemblies are an assembly line aid. Once installed, there is no discernable difference between the captured type and the separate type.

McMaster-Carr #95479A111 will get you about as close as you're going to get on the nut. You'll need to buy 50, though.

For the washer, McMaster-Carr #91113A029 is about as close as you'll get, but you'll need to blacken them. You'll need to buy 100.

Otherwise, you can get something pretty close in a hardware store. You'll just need to blacken them. Use Quanta's black oxide spray paint, bake them after painting, and be careful about chipping when you install them.

Joe, does it look like this ?

              Joe;
Thanks for taking so much time to help me out with this.
I found two of these in my miscellaneous nut/bolt container from when I bought the car in 1983. Thanks.

                Greg----

This is an EXTERNAL tooth lockwasher and looks to be a captured type. The original used an INTERNAL tooth lockwasher. However, I could not guarantee that an external tooth type captured nut/washer assembly was never used for the application. It's very possible that it was. Very easy to check in your case. Look on the bracket where the washer seats. You should be able to see whether the "tooth marks" impressed into the bracket are typical of an internal or external tooth star washer. Then, you'll know what was originally used on your car. Please post what you find.

                  Greg,
The nut that your photo shows appears to be typical of the nuts on my 71. From what Joe has relayed it might/must be for later production years than your car.
                  Regards,
                  Alan

What temp do you use to bake painted nuts/bolts/screws in an oven?

Joe, Do you bake them for the finish quality or does it make the paint more durable? How long at 300 degrees? Can you do silver as well as the blacks? THANKS....Marty
