What size radial tire will fit in the spare tire carrier on my '67? It has aluminum bolt-ons with P215/70R15's on the ground, but I have no spare tire (previous owner removed it, I suppose). The bolt-ons are not factory. Thanks.

Re: C2 spare tire
Different tires (mfgr, size category & model) have slightly different specific geometries. Plus, there were different hinge bolts used on Corvette depending on which specific tires + wheel options it was equipped with from the factory (determines the 'depth' of the tire tube). So, it's a matter of trial + error to find a modern service replacement that'll fit in your car's spare tire carrier, but starting with a P205 is your best bet at finding a decent match.
Some go to the scrap yard and find a low mileage 7.75x15 bias ply tire from the era to use as a spare. While it's NOT a correct match to the modern radials that are mounted, it will serve in a pinch to get you out of a road side emergency situation for that short drive to the nearest service center....- Top
