tank/build sheets any places to get a repro.

i've a letter from the dealership that my car is an original 67 L-71 since I can't find the tanks sticker. I asume it's gone. I do have a window sticker.

Is ther any outfits out there that can make up a build sheet from what I have mentioned or just hold my position and be happy withwhat I have?

I'm just trying to protect the cars value as a "REAL" L-71 since so many new have seemed to pop up after they stopped production if you get my drift.

    Thanks,George Rogers #33570

    Re: Water Pump Dates

Saw a '62 dated '2608 pump just yesterday at a scrap yard. Was VERY different from the '2608 we know & love in Corvettedom though--a Tonawanda casting (obvious from the small embossed 'T' preceeding the 'GM'). Had a HUGE front side reinforcing rib that doesn't appear on Saginaw/Flint pumps with the same cast number.....

      Re: Water Pump Dates

Jack, you have me nervous now. What is this pump in the pictures below? Is this like the ones we know and love in Corvette'Dom? Does it look like what one would expect from the factory on a '70 350/300 AT w/ AC car? It has the same casting number but what looks like a 61 date code!

Because I just yesterday shipped it out to Art Gould for rebuilding. Did I send him the wrong thing? eeeek!

      Thanks. ~Juliet

        Re: Water Pump Dates *TL*

        Juliet,

The double number in the date (although I am skeptical of 61 - that sounds early to me, but that is a shoot-from-the-hip response) and the T that is visible in the last image cause me to think this is a water pump cast in Tonawanda NY. I would not expect a water pump casting to travel from NY to MI for use at Flint.

Please note I did not say it can not happen, just that I would not expect to see that on a Flint built small motor as in your 1970.

        Terry

          Re: Water Pump Dates

Thanks Terry. Is the casting number & location judged? I know the date codes aren't for 70-72s. My intent was to put something on the car that is at least the correct configuration. At the moment the one on the car has the bypass plug on top - and is starting to make some noise.

Does this one at least look right configurationally speaking? What kind of deduction would I be looking at for the Tonawanda casting if that is even judged? ~Juliet

            Yep!

Pix you show tallies 100% with my scrapyard walking experience for a real McCoy factory original TONAWANDA cast pump, gal. Observe the HUGE reinforcing ribs that surround the cast date along with the spurious "T" emboss near the GM mold and cast number embosses. This is identical to what I've seen on EVERY untouched Tonawanda block in scrapyard cars (I determine if they're 'untouched' by observing the factory original intake gaskets and presense of Chevy orange overspray meaning the intake's never been off the motor since it left the factory).

This, in my book, is typical of what you get when you buy a 'correct' Corvette water pump core from sources that aren't practiced in Corvettedom. But, as Terry said, who's to say there weren't sporadic 'swaps' of engine build sub-assy pieces from time to time? Guess, if pressed I'd rely on my personal knowledge and put the burden of proof upon the owner for correct/original pedigree of this water pump on a Saginaw/Flint built Corvette motor....

              A little knowledge is dangerous....

...I thought based on all the descriptions I've read that the ribs were on the thing sticking out where the shaft comes through, not on the front face of the thing!! Or is there yet another style with ribs on the part surrounding the shaft? Is that not called the snout? I'd thing a snout was like a nose ie - the part sticking out.

So, lay it on me - point wise, is the afforepictured 'non corvette dom' (but correct casting number!) pump better or worse than this one with the bypass plug and heaven knows what casting number?

              www.corvetteforum.com/c3/juliet/waterpump.jpg

Will it FIT on my '70 small block? I still do NEED a waterpump - the old one (pictured above) is starting to make noise.

I suppose in the grand scheme of things my (ahem) 'lucky' find for $25 on eBay isn't that bad of a screw-up.

Hello blonde , how are you? Please check the link below. I think that the 608 pump you are looking for is shown (forget the 327 chalk label...), Jack will give the fine details. Look the lack of reinf as UJ mentioned.

...Roberto comes through with a million words. (Or is that pixels?)

Thank you! I truly hope everything is fine in your corner of the planet - especially considering the turmoil I hear about on the news. I think of you every time the subject comes up.

And many thanks to Jack - he who prowls the junk yard - er recycle yards - gotta be politically correct!

Since the one with the reinforcing ribs will word & fit I'll go with that one for now until a suitable non-ribbed and non-Tonawanda one presents itself. Guess I'm still a newbie at this huh? I've got to find some junk yards around here now! ~Juliet

FYI...I just received a rebuilt original water pump from LICS. Correct casting, correct date for my 67 and delivered within three days of placing my order. Searching through hundreds of cores in my spare time sounds like a heck of a lot of fun...but no thanks.
