C1 Parking Brake Flasher

Hi, I've been having a few problems with the parking brake flasher on my 1956. When the handbrake is applied and the ignition on sometimes in doesn't work, sometimes it flashes and the other times it stays lit. Have checked connections & fittings etc and it appears that the Tung-Sol 650 flasher is at fault, boy are they difficult to find especially as I'm in the UK. Does anyone know where I can find one, have checked Ebay and a chap called Jay who seems to be the main man for flasher units on there. Or maybe someone on here has one tucked away in the cupboard that would like to sell it and give it a new home, I would be internally grateful.

People have repaired those flashers. Some where in my library I have a copy of a "How To" on the subject. The basic idea is to open the back of your flasher to expose the bi metallic element, it can be removed and replaced with an element from a modern parts store flasher. Solder the new element in and your all set. I have not personally tried this repair so cannot be sure but in theory it makes sense. I'll try and find the article for you. Rich # 2272

Did she send you a 650? The most readily available 12V one is a 642, which will likely work but won't pass judging. Paul, The article referred to in above posts is still available on the St. Louis NCRS website in one of the older newsletters. If you can't find it there, let me know.
