Have a '67 with 5 wheels, code DG, not DC as expected. Any ideas?

Re: 67 DC wheel code
Bob----
Are you sure that you are reading them correctly? The only "DG" coded wheels that I am aware of were 14 X 6 wheels used on other 1967 Chevrolet passenger cars. I wouldn't even think that these wheels would fit on your car given the caliper clearance requirements. But if that's what you have, you should also have 14" tires to go with them.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

They definitely say DG
The wheels definitely say "DG". I have heard from at least one member who believes DG is commonly known, although in the many years of reading Driveline, Vette Vues, and Hemmings, I have never seen any DG wheels advertised for sale. For those who may be interested, this car was produced in late Feb 67 and had blackwall tires.- Top

Re: They definitely say DG
"DG" is for sure a code used in 67 for 14 X 6 rally wheels used on Chevrolet SS and Camaro SS with disc brakes. It is hard to imagine that GM would have intentionally used the same code for two different sized wheels; the purpose for the code was to easily distinguish different configuration wheels. It is possible, I suppose, that your wheels were incorrectly marked at the Kelsey-Hayes factory. Perhaps, someone mistakenly picked up a "G" character die instead of a "C" and inserted it into the stamping machine. In that case, at least a day's production would have been mis-stamped. This is just speculation, though. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 67 DC wheel code
check the archives on this board. in august of last year the same topic was discussed. you will find out that the n.c.r.s. is aware of the dc, dg rally wheel code situation. just remember, corvette rims were 15x6, with jk stamped on the inner rim. i have (4) 1967 corvette rally wheels, stamped dc,and dated 10-66, if anyone needs a set. hope this helps. brian.- Top

Re: 67 DC wheel code
I check some '67 rims I have and have a 10/66 wheel with DC, but more interesting is a 3/67 wheel with the "DC" code where the "C" looks to be a "G" with the horizontal line missing. I need to do some more checking to see if I have any with a definite letter "G", i.e with the horizontal line. If possible it might be worthwhile knowing the date stamping on the inside of the wheels versus the code by the valve stem hole.
Also, for those wrestling with the "DC" versus "DG" '67 wheel codes it is interesting to note that early '67 wheels, i.e. with date stamp of 8/66, had a "B" wheel code. "B" wheels have been observed on several '67 Corvettes including S/N 100, 1476, and ~1500. If others have early "67s with "B" wheels, I'd be interested in the S/N and the wheel dates and I'd also be interested in knowing of early dated, earlier then 10/66, "DC" wheels.
In addition, there are some very interesting changes in the "GM" stamping by the lug nut bolt pattern thru the '67 wheel production period. Who says this hobby isn't challenging?- Top
