    Setting C1 choke

It's getting cold here in The northeast. Yesterday I started the 60 to back it out of the garage to do some sheetrocking and I again find that the choke butterfly is stuck in the open position and doesn't set when I pump the pedal. If I manually manipulate the butterfly a loud click is heard and then the choke will close setting the high idle. I removed the choke housing and the butterfly does not bind.

A little backround info. Carb is rebuilt/restored. I have increased the spring tension by adjusting the choke housing but it still will not set unless I manually assist. I disassembled the choke assembly and cleaned it and then removed the plug and the piston and lightly honed the poston bore, and reassembled. Still no help. I changed out the whole choke assembly for a spare That I have and it still doesn't work. I have been chasing this thing for a few years now. Do these housings wharp possibly causing this binding condition? Anyone have any ideas...Anywhere I can get another choke assembly? I'm ready to swap this carb out for an aftermarket Holley!

The bind could be in the linkage

All of the linkage is free and not binding. This condition only occurs after the car warms up and the choke returns to the open position. Then When I attempt to start the car again on next cold start up, the choke wont reset by pressing the accelerator to the floor no matter how many times I try.

It's quite possible you simply have 'gunk' (that's a hi tech term) built up on the choke mechanism that's making it 'stick'. When it's cold and the engine hasn't been started, pull the air cleaner and work the accelerator with your hand from the engine compartment while you study the choke linkage to see what's hanging it up.

A shop towel laid on the intake manifold and liberal spray shots with carb cleaner while you manually actuate the throttle linkage frequently results in 'de-gunking' the choke linkage components so they move freely once more without sticking...
