dichromate

Does anyone know if the Holley custom shop will just re Dichromate your carburetor body? Are do they have to rebuild the carburetor for one to get that service. I know that they would not be the best for a complete rebuild, but I just wanted a carburetor re dichromate and would re-build it myself. I did not want to use the east wood paint and the caswell plating system.

I was sucessful sending all the steel pieces of the carb to the platers and getting them plated. I had them all bead blasted and cleaned prior to send them out. But I have not found anybody willing to do the aluminum to the dichromate finish. Let me know if you are suceccful with that.

Problem with platers is the minimun order size and cost.

The only part of the C2 Holleys which is aluminum is the base plate. This is left natural and cleans up well with a mag cleaner and lots of elbow grease.
The body, fuel bowls and metering blocks are potmetal (zinc diecast).

I seriously doubt that the carb restorer's replate these items prior to application of the dichromate finish. One can do a decent job of finishing these parts by bead blasting the pot metal parts, getting them down to a raw zinc finish, and then dipping them in the yellow chromate solution (such as Caswell sells). This gives the gold irridescent finish. If you zinc plate the potmetal, the finish will come out too bright gold and and uneven especially for the carb main body. (which is just about impossible to plate evenly with a home plating kit).

On the steel parts, screws, plates, these parts take replating and a bright gold finish. You can send these to a replater, buy new or easily replate them with one of the replating kits. I use the Caswell kit, and it is fun on small parts.

kelly, i had my 67 tri-power re-zinc'd at aluminart in pomona ca and they look as perfect as you would want them---not putting down the caswell kits but this is a business that specilaizes in all plating process except chrome---based on what i've taken to them,they would do probably 4 to 6 holley 4 bbls for $65.00---good luck,phil---i pulled an invoice from a few months ago and they clear (silver) zinc 43 parts for $95.00 and no they were not bolts---
