    C2 Original waterpump fasteners survey

All, Do you have a "non molested" original waterpump on your C2 BB or SB?

If you do.... are the fasteners holding the plate cover on the back of the waterpump hexhead or screw slot?

Thanks in advance for your response.

Steve. On my original '65 pump, they are all recessed hex heads. I'm about to send it in for restoration, so let me know if you want photos of the original pump.

    Best,
    Tony

            Steve,

Hex head on mine 67 small block 608 pump:

First time off, pump is dated F227. Here's the back:

There was a post on this within the last 4-6 weeks. Some years and other models had the slotted screws.

Steve ---- Mine may not be unmolested, however, I believe all original fasteners were reused. My '67 is a Feb 14th (+/-) built and has hex-recessed-head screws with, what looks like a 'C", "D" or "O" mfr's marking.

What year are you asking about? In a five

year period, usage could have changed a # of times? You CANNOT use '67 data/facts to examine '63's, which have enough "running changes" during the model year to make them a topic all their own.

                            Steve,

The issue of fasteners and associated back plate configuration on '67 water pumps was discussed here within the last few months.

The consensus and evidence seemed to conclude that on small blocks, recessed hex head screws with external tooth lock washers were used. The plate configuration along the perimeter was thought to be smooth with a slight up turn at the edge.

The big block original configuration was depicted as the same with an exception of the faster head being pan head and slotted, with a similar lock washer.

Gerry and Joe provided excellent photos of each example.

It would be interesting to note exceptions found on known original factory installed examples...
