Same problem here with my 65 factory AC, PS car. I went to extreme measures to verify that I had the correct P/N pulleys, than ordered 3 Quanta belts. Only 2 of the 3 fit, the AC was short by at least 2 inches.

Telephone manners are soo important. Knowing how to talk on the phone can make or break a company. Since I am a big bser I don't have trouble on the phone but it can get to you. But no matter how tired or digusted an individual is there is no excuse for rude phone behavior. I am not picking out any company though.
You don't have to be the brighest Corvette guy on the planet. Just need to be able to listen to the customers complaints and hear about every nut and bolt on their car without telling them that they are a retard. Even though some of them are you can't let them know that you are aware of that.
I mean we all started somewhere. Just today I read a post that a new DB guy was asking about where to buy tires. Well the poor guy is new to this game and doesn't realize there are 1000 posts on tires. But you don't hold that against him. No. You go out of your way to be polite no matter what.
There are courses called phone power-or something like that that are available you know. Anyone in business should send his or her employees to a school or have a company come in the business and teach people how to talk on the phone. Course sometimes it's fruitless. Once a DA always a DA. I get a lot of phone calls because I am polite on the phone. Not bragging-just telling you the truth. And I get a lot of basic(dumb) questions. Basic to me but not basic to the caller. NCRS guys call me all the time. But I don't mind. If I minded the answer is simple. You just don't answer the phone. Then when you are in a better mood you do your thing. But the last thing you want to do is take out your personal problems on a customer. That's a fatal mistake as there is a lot of competition out there. And then you have these forums that can kill you if you screw up and you know we all screw up once in a while.

Had the same belt size problem with my 67 327/300hp with PS and AC. The belt that was way too long was the alternator belt, even when the alternator was moved all the way to the end of the bracket. I measured the "original" belt, called them and they sent a repro belt that would fit. In my case, I'm not 100% sure about all my pulleys (except the one on the alternator, which was numbered correctly), so I guess it is possible that the other pulley was off.

Kirk, I had the same problem with my 67 327/300 P/S & A/C. They offer a more generic one size fits more application belt. Quanta replaced 2 of LI's belts with the correct ones. BTW this was a couple of years ago, I'm not sure what they are offering for that application at this time, when did you buy tour belts?

                        Re: Quanta Belt Quandary

Bought my belts this past winter. Everything fit perfect except the alternator belt, which was really close but just didn't work. I checked my bracket on the board here and it seems to be correct, so I'm not sure what the problem was unless my pulley on the engine is the wrong diameter. This is possible since I can't really get to it to check whether its "original" or later replacement. Having said that though, the other belts fit fine. Who knows. I think a lot of the applications have some degree of variation in them that we just don't like to admit since it would make the guide about 100 pages longer.

My alt. belt was sent to me in the right sleeve, the right date with the right part number but it didn't fit either (approx. 3" short). I contacted Quanta and was informed they had a production issue and would send the correct belt in approx. 3 weeks, which they did. Now all is well under the hood. This happened about 8 months ago.

                                Re: Quanta Belt Quandary

                                Hi Anthony:

I've had problems with the Quanta belts tossing at 4000+ RPM on my 67 327/300 with A/C and power steering. I have not had time to fully investigate the problem, but one of my theories is that the Quanta belts may be prone to this, expecially the long A/C belt. I'd love to hear if others on this discussion board have had good results with the Quanta belts at high RPM.

My first experiment was to switch to Gates belts on the alternator and power steering, and no belt at all on the A/C. That holds up fine at high RPM, but I have not yet tried adding a Gates A/C belt. I'm also looking into converting to the "deep groove" pulleys used on the L79, but that turns out to be a complicated problem because the deep groove pulleys do not line up properly on an A/C car.

In my research on this problem many people have emphasized that mis-alignment of the pulleys can cause belts to come off. The alignment on my pulleys *looks* fine, but I plan to do some detailed measurements to check it more carefully.

Also, many people say that one a belt has come off, it may be distorted and should not be reused.

Lastly, regarding your experience with the alternator belt stretching to the end of the adjustment range, I had this problem too with two successive Quanta alternator belts of the correct part number. I called Quanta and they were very helpful in identifying a slightly shorter belt with similar construction. The best fit was with a belt that was only one inch shorter than the "correct" belt. I was surprised that such a small change in the length of the belt had such a large effect on the position of the alternator adjustment.
