Re: 69 Idle Solenoid
I asked Mr. Berge the same question about the 1968 small block 4-speeds with a/c. The 68-69 judging guide, if I'm reading it correctly, says "some 69's may not have it installed while "all 68's" with a/c have it. I question the validity of the "all 68's with a/c" should have the set-up.
The 68 AIM only shows big blocks with it. The GM parts guide I have only calls it out for a 350 engine and I'm still looking for a picture of an unmolested 68 327/350hp, 4-speed with a/c engine compartment. Please, please somebody has got to have a pic.
Mr. Berge sent me an email saying he would check in to it.

Re: 69 Idle Solenoid
I am very frustrated knowing you have been waiting over a year for an answer. I am only 30 days out, wait I think I see light at the end of the tunnel, no my mistake it was the light on the locomotive.
I really thought the NCRS was all about restoration and preservation of our fine cars, however the more I get envolved the more I understand that being a part of Barrett Jackson, etc is more important to the gentlemens club than having accurate judging guidelines and a system to address issues such as ours. By the way isn't the AIM the standard and NCRS Judging Manuals a compilation of information gathered from many sources?
It is just like a reply I see a great deal " this subject has been discussed before check the archives". For God's sake everything has been discussed before concerning our cars. As the old saying goes"if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all".
If someone reads this that can make a difference I sure would like to hear from you.

Re: 69 Idle Solenoid
Erv,
I know from personal experience that Chuck would MUCH rather talk by phone or in person than communicate via e-mail. There are still people like that out there.
Having said that, this solenoid on ANY 68s has been discussed several times on the board, and the consensus seems to be that it likely was not used in the manner the JG states it was used. I suspect that even in a year's time, Chuck may not have seen one of these 68s in untouched form that he could use to add to his knowledge base. And if he did, should our JG change based on one car?
I would highly recommend giving Chuck a phone call and seeing what he has to say.

Re: 69 Idle Solenoid
The idle solenoid issue is one of the many things that we are researching for the next edition of the '68-'69 manual (don't believe that that will happen in the next couple of years though). Finding ONE owner cars is like finding hen's teeth. If a car has gone thru a couple of owners, who knows what has been changed.
We know that there are mistakes in the manual, but at the time it was revised what was published was the best available information. The manuals are living, breathing documents that evolve over time.
As a general rule we do not make a deduction for the lack of the solenoid and probably won't until a clear definition of the application is arrive uponDick Whittington- Top
