    C1 '58 Oil Pan Correct? Pic 1

Is this the correct oil pan for a '58? It is an older pan and has the smaller fron seal, but it is not flat in the center section.

Here's a shot of the center section. The oil plug is in the center at the back.

        Ted, I believe not a '58 - 62 pan...

...58 - 62 drain plug would be in the rear middle bottom. Center step of pan appears too long. JMO Best, Dennis

            Re: Ted, I believe not a '58 - 62 pan...

The oil plug is toward the rear at the middle on the bottom flat surface and has the larger head drain plug. I have one of the GM reissues that accomodates the thicker front seal. In comparison the center is about 1 to 1 1/2" longer than the reissue. Here' another picture from the side.

I read a post in the archives from someone restoring a '58 big brake car and it sounded like he was describing the two indentations that appear on both sides on the bottom of the center section on this pan. There was also a discussion in that post on the trap door. There was one post that indicated the trap door didn't come in place until '60.

Also here's a link to one on ebay but by looking at the front it appears to be a reissue if you look how close the front bolt holes are to the front seal radius, thoughts? Ted

                Ted,

The indentations that are spoken about are for the sides. You should have a smooth transition from the middle slope to the bottom of the pan. In addition, there is an oval depression (when looking inside the pan) or a pressed-out island when looking from the outside, where the drain plug is. This depression is in the middle center of the very bottom.

As such, this is a close looking, but not correct pan.

                Dave

                    Prior Post Referred To

Dave, Here's a link to the prior post I was referring to. In it Justin indicates the pan for his '58 has "the normal 3 steps with the plug in the bottom center just like the later years but it also has a set of channeled type indentions on the bottom of the middle step. These indentions are on the bottom left & right-hand sides of the center step running from front to back". I don't know what the pan is for. So I'm not trying to argue that it is correct. It came with one of the '58 engines I received with my '58. Thanks Ted

C1 Oil Pan #3736615 Was It Used in Production?

By Loren's post in the linked posting, it appears this pan may be #3736615 which appeared as a service replacement in one of his parts books. Was that part ever used in production? TIA Ted
