    Carburetor restorer needed

I have a friend needing a good restorer for his '63 carb. Can someone recommend a really good and reliable carburetor restorer?

    Thanks.

There are many prior threads on this in the archives. Different carb folks 'specialize' in certain carbs (Carter, QJet, Holley) and since '63 Corvettes used different carbs based on engine configuration, you'll want to get more specific about the version of the '63 carb you're targeting.

The 'Big Three' in my book are Dave Kuntz (all), Jerry Luck (Holley and QJet) and Dick Katter (Carter). I say this because each has been around for quite some time, has a proven track record for end product judgeability and uses either a flow bench or 'mule' engine to actually run the finished carb through its paces (grade their own report cards).

There ARE other/newer carb restoration folks out there and your archive search will find info on them. But, there are also guys who simply disassemble, clean, and 'throw in' an overhaul kit and ship the carb back to you untested/unverified with a return if it doesn't work warranty. To me, that level of service doesn't 'get it'....

        Tony,
Bob Kunz in saintlouis, mo did my 57 single four barrel
he does great work and would go there again, but somethings if you have a question later concerning anything about the carb. he gets a little defensive
like you are in some way assuming he did something wrong

            Tony,

I assume it's a Carter AFB carb. If so, Gary Hodges in Salem, Oregon. He restored the Carter AFB for my '64 Corvette several years ago and it still works perfectly. All I did was install it and set the idle. No leaks, no hesitation, just hit the key hot or cold and it's running. He can be contacted at (503) 588-3883. He is an NCRS member.

            Regards,

            James West

Hi Paul. Is Bob still doing carb restos? He's the first guy that came to mind, but I had heard he wasn't doing restorations any more.

                    Hi Tony

Bob Kunz did my carb on my 62. He rebuilt it and refinished it to factory finishes. Excellent job. I would give him my business again. As a matter of fact, the carb I sent him, I bought at a swap meet. He called me back and said it had the wrong top on it. He replaced the top with the correct one for $20.00 extra and put a tag on it and returned my top.Give him a call.Quick turn around for me.

                    Good luck...John

My WCFB is on it's way to Dick Katter. I hope to let you know about the positive results.

Quanta is doing mine now. They clean and boil all of the parts and dye them back to the correct color. They also flow test them and, I was told, provide some documentation of the flow testing. We'll see how it turns out.
