65 Back Up Light Wiring Orientation

    Hi Guys,

I am installing a new back up light switch on my 65. The plastic connector has come off of the dash wires, so now I can't determine the correct orientation for hooking up the switch. The wiring diagram doesn't specify either. The hot lead from the dash appears tan or pink, and the other is light green. The wires on the new switch are black/green and black/purple. What is the correct orientation for these wires?

    Thanks!

Don --- I assume you're referring to a manual trans car. When the plug is installed on the leads that come through the firewall, holding the plug and facing the brass contacts, oriented so that the "V" point is downward, then the green lead ishould be on the right and the pink is on the left.

Other than for judging, I'm not sure that, electrically, it would make a difference.

Early '65s had black firewall leads with green or pink stripes; later cars had solid pink or green. However, the backup switches (at least for 4-speed) were always black with green or pink stripes (at least to the end of 1965 MY).

Thanks Wayne! Yes, it is a 4 speed car. The switch works with either orientation, but I wanted to get it correct for judging.

        Thanks!
