Re: C2 Storage compartment carpet
Noland Adams addresses this in his book. He says the carpet under the jack was dropped in early Jan '65 about the time SN 6000 was built with the first 'no carpet' survey response being SN 6362. The '65 AIM gives an AIM date for the introduction of the anti-rattle rubber grommet around the lug wrench of 10-19-64 but Noland says survey data didn't find grommets showing up until later--Jan '65 era. Also, suspects there were cross-over cars with BOTH the carpet pad and the grommet....
Looked at a resonably untouched local '65 FI car last month built approximately 12/1/64. Car was Nassau blue. It had the anti-rattle carpet and no grommet. Interesting point--the car's carpet interior was light blue, but the anti-rattle carpet pad was black!
Original post may have been about ALL rear carpet in general instead of just the jack/anti-rattle carpet. If so, all '65 cars came with rear carpet EXCEPT optionally equipped N03 (big tank) Corvettes--that's going from memory....- Top

Re: C2 Storage compartment carpet
Looked at the same article in Nolands book. It states that carpet piece (ONE rectangle with cut-outs for the spring retainers) was glued into place at the bottom of the drivers side storage area. The color could match the interior carpet color or it could be black(80-20 loop).Beginning in 65' only until approx. vin# 6000, when it was discontinued.- Top
