    C1 Interesting 54 & 58 Corvettes at Daytona Show

I was at the Daytona Speedway yesterday for the annual Turkey Run Event, a 4 day, 5,000+ car show. I was amazed at the diversity of cars, vendors etc. Many C1,2,3, Corvettes, both for show and for sale. Asking prices were from 50k for a nom 60, to 89k for a very nice C2(65 I think). The show encompased the entire infield/pit of the track. Not sure how many acres but it was amazing. I've been to the Hershey event in the past. I think this was bigger.

Came across a few interesting Custom Corvettes too.

    The '54:

And a '58. Talked to the owner who owned it since new and modified it a bit.

Rich, yes the spring is involved when you replace the gear cup assembly. The regulator arm itself will need to be clamped down with vice grips to the bracket when the 3 rivets are drilled out. If you go this route inspect the regulator for worn teeth as that would be a good time to replace it. Gary....

It's great to see some people really use the older Corvettes for fun , the 54 would fit in to NCRS under the racing car display

Yep I know , just kidding , but would be neat to have a display of Mod-Corvettes -so many Corvettes are being modified here in Ca. Using C5 and up running gear and done professonlly I would like having one in the C2's their going for around 100G's and up.

The 54 is reminiscent of 1960's gassers and the 58 of 70's customs.

The 54 may be qualified for the NCRS American Heritage Award if it was an actual race car and has documentation to support racing history.

We've been to Turkey Rod Run in Daytona for all of the last 18 years except for once. I gets bigger/better every year. If it weren't for the Yankee midget football players (some kind of national tournament) that turn the hotels into a zoo at the same time every year the whole week would be damn near perfect.

My old college roommate and I make it the annual boys trip, and he had an interesting assessment of the '54 with the straight front axle: "There's an interesting way to turn a large fortune into a small one".

As usual, and just like the weekend before at Moultrie (about as big as Daytona now, possibly with MORE cars for sale) some of the people are completely out of touch with reality on prices, or either think there are a heard of idiots in the world with a hundred grand burnin' a hole in the pocket, but there did seem to be a few sleepers in the car coral. I didn't see any cars changing hands at either place though, so maybe (HOPEFULLY) we're fixin' to see a decline in the insanity so that some of the REAL car guys can afford to get back in the game.

Back to Daytona............ one of the things I like so much about that week is that so many of the people show em during the day and put em in the street at night and ride. The cruise & display at LaPlaya' and BelAir Plaza at night is as good as anything I've ever been to.
