    69 7029215 carb

I have a restored 7029215 carb but the number reads 29215EH with a date of 0219. Why is th "70" not stamped. The rebuilder said sometimes the 70 was not stamped.

Clem, It is a "Rochester Quadrajet" . I also have a Carter built quadrajet and it is cast saying "Mfd by carter carburetor" then below it has the Quadrajet script. I believe it was a replacement carb and it does have a differant numbering system. It reads 4850S and F2 below that.

see old restorer article by Mark Smith

About 5 or 10 years ago, Mark Smith wrote an article describing Carter vs. Rochester made Q-Jets. In addition, he showed what percentages of each were in his large stockpile - interestingly enough, some carbs appeared to be ONLY made by one manufacturer. If that's the case for the 215 carb, then it may be a restamp. Who knows!

If you will read the NCRS 1968-69 Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide it explains the differences in the numbering and coding of the two carburetors. Rochester and Carter built carburetors are used interchangeably thru out the model years.
