Re: C1 Hubcap Spinner Orientation - Roy Braatz Myt

i had four NOS(in the old black and yellow GM cardboard)and i got to unstaple the boxes--they were random. i'd guess they were sold over the counter in the 60's. Of course, they weren't installed on the line in st louis. mike

I agree with random clocking (at least on the 63's) I've removed over 100 of these restoring 63 hubcaps and there is no defined clocking at installation.

Nothing in the 63/4 manual denoting such for either year.

I just looked at my '59's caps. I bought it in 1969. 2up/2down.

Reading your post brought back many good times Noland and I had with SACE and your quiet right we did make up that story just to see if every one would change their hub caps ( and they did) He! He! And as a result of every one changing them we felt so bad that we decided not to tell people we made it up . Even some one in NCRS put it in their JM ( now that was a shock to use)
So we kept it a secret for years. Yes it was random .It was my idea and Noland went alonge with it. Sorry guys!

Dennis! OK it was my idea but Noland is a grown up and went along also, it was a joke and as stated we BOTH were surprised. We dint think it hurt the hobby or I and Noland would be the first to say so. ( did it???) Your short and some times long smart a**s comments of others like dummy and Gag me with a spoon is the response of your attitude toward "many" members, making people think your an a**s. I've read many of them and many towards me. This is the vary first response I've given back to you. I try to respond when I'm wrong and add the word sorry . I've always respected you and still trying to even now because your a great asset to NCRS more then I have or will ever be .Try to lighten up on other members / me it's OK because I realize you never liked me .

                            Spinners & C2 knockoff question

Hey Roy, hope you had fun in my home state. Glad you could contribute to keeping taxes down for me.:-)

....now I gotta change my spinners back to random!:-) What's the ratio, 1of4, 2of4, or 3of4?:-). FYI, maybe you didn't see it but Dennis had a "Smiley" on his subject line. I think he was kidding around. BTW I think you both are tremendous assets to the NCRS. The knowledge you both are passing along to us all will preserve the future. You both should get together over a few beers and plan to write a book of your experiences for us all.

So since we're on the subject of spinners.......Dennis, did you notice the knockoff spinners on your wife's XKE? It has wire wheels right? Left side says "LEFT(NEAR)SIDE", right says "RIGHT(OFF)SIDE". http://tinyurl.com/2onxkx Comes from old English horse talk. Since they rode their horses on the opposite sides of the road from us, riders would pull the horse over on the left side "NEAR" the curb. They'd get off the right side of the horse on the "OFF" side at the center of the road. Also, if you ever remove the wheel hubs, make sure you mark them right & left. If you reverse them it's possible for the spinners to unscrew themselves by centrifugal force with terrible results! I've heard of a few cases where this happened.

Has this ever happened on C2 Corvettes with true knockoffs? If you reverse the hubs(if they can be), can the knockoffs loosen up enough to loose a wheel?
