    454 oil pan drain plug

Could someone tell me what the correct oil drain plug looks like for a 1971 454, head marking, size, magnetic or not, finish.
    Thanks in advance.

    Part of the answer:
Not magnetic. Painted red/orange like the oil pan.

        Sheldon------

Flanged "indented" hex head with 9/16" across-the-flats (wrench size) and 1/2-20 thread size. 3 lines on head (SAE grade 5). Common headmarkings were "A" or "M" and there may well have been others.

With the possible exception of headmarking, you can still purchase one just like the original from GM under GM #3921988.

By the way, the original gasket was a whitish nylon washer.

            Junkyard or machine shop

It's the same oil drain plug used on millions of Chevy V8 engines in that era - not hard to find, usually for free.
