    62 rear shock removal

Any advice on removing the upper fastners on the rear shocks? At a glance it looks like the body has to come off first!!!!!!

    Ed,
On the back of the gas tank cover I think you'll find two holes. They probably are covered over with tape, maybe the mohair cloth materal as well (I can't recall). At least these holes the access route for my '56. Regards,

      Re: 62 rear shock removal

Ed: I did the rear shocks on my 61 about 3 months ago. I did it all from underneath. Got the car way up in the air on jack stands and I used an offset box end wrench (1/2" as I recall) and took alot small twists. I also just replaced the gas tank and do not see how I could have gotten to the upper shock
mountings without drilling extra holes which I didn't choose to do. Go slowly, good luck.

This would have been about a 30 minuet job

if I hadn't broken the lower stud first thing. I had to drill the stud out from the back side anmd replace it with the bolt that came with the shock kit. What a PITA! I'm taking the other one off very carefully.

No holes on the later cars

These would be a real pain to get off if one had to deal with badly corroded fastners.

Don't know about later C1's, but my '57 has access holes for the upper shock attachments at the rear of the folding top compartment floor, with paper covers glued over them (which are shown in the A.I.M.); you have to raise the top out of the way to see them.

My '56 has the holes in the soft top storage compartment. I think they are the only two things that are original on my car.
