    Does anyone know what the letters stand for after the Chevrolet numbers on the carburetor? Is it the assembly plant code? Has anyone broken the codes for the Rochester Quadrajets?
    Thanks

        My 70 has 7040202 numbers. This is what I have found.
        70=Rochester product identifier
        40=Year code 40 is 1970, 1968=38 or 33 with AIR, 1969=39, 1971=41, and 1972=42

        other years will need to be looked up.
        2=49 state carb (not sure, but 5 Calif or high alt)
        0=Division 0,1,and 2 Chev (3=Caddy 4=Buick 5=OLDS 6&7 Pont)
        2= Even number for automatics Odd number for manuals

            Re: carb date

            Kelly I believe that your carb would have been built on the 219 th day of 1970, 1980 or possibly 1990.

            I'm pretty sure that the two letter code after the part number was for the assembly line workers so that they could quickly pick that carb from this two letter code rather than the part number so like part numbers should have like codes.
