    Re: 1955 braided ignition wires

Dave, since I don't have a 55, nor any manuals for one, I'm afraid I'm a dummy flying blind, I'm only relaying info I get here... what are the "original J clips"? I'm thinking they may be some sort of clip that holds/guides the spark plug wires and has a mounting screw that goes in the same hole (below/between the spark plugs) that the (later) heat shields use? Do you know if/where repros of the "J" clips are available?

    Thanks.

You might be able to get these clips from MaryJo or Grossmuller, but frankly they would be easy to make. As far as I know, they were used on the Corvette only, in 1955 only. Pretty narrow target.

Easy to make, maybe ...but only if you have an example to copy! :>)

Again, remember, I've never seen a 55 Corvette V8 put together correctly, I'm asking for a friend, and so I can't visualize it. I don't have an AIM, and Noland's book doesn't show the spark plug wire routing below the heads, and Grossmueller's website doesn't seem to have illustrations nor mention a J clip.
Does the one on this web page look like the one you are referring to:

Are there 4 of them and do they simply hold the braided spark plug wires against the side of the block and attach where I assumed (where the later heat shields attach)? When installed on the block, is the "J" hook at the top or at the bottom?

            Thanks!

The rear clip, which holds three wires and two grond leads.

This is the front wire clip, which holds one wire and two terminals.
