tie down straps

Previously I inquired with respect to trailering our 71 to Florida for the winter meet. I received valuable information and should have asked what strength straps to use for this application? It seems that we rate them normally in ranges up to 10,000 lbs and everyone sells them. The straps we will use will hook into recessed floor D rings. Finally could there be any unforeseen problems with securing the front of the Vette by using straps around the front lower ball joint areas? Again, any help appreciated.

I use 4 10,000# straps. The front is secured around the lower ball joint (avoid the grease zerk) The rear are hooked into the frame ahead of the rear wheel in the hole that is adjacent to the seat belt safety cable. The rears are also crossed for additional stability. All straps are secured to recessed "D" rings

Ralph, criss cross the straps. Also, there are hook holes in the frame that can be used rather than strap around lower aframes. Gary....

I did see the elongated holes but thought them to be too high and that the straps would contact the front lower valance when pulled tight to the front D rings. I haven't physically loaded the 71 and I would really like to use those holes if possible since they were designed for that application.

Whether the straps contact the air dam or other parts of the car depends on the location of the D rings -- that is how far forward of the car they are. Use the holes in the chassis if you can, otherwise the lower control arm will work although I always used the opening closer to the center of the car, nearer the inner bushings.

I thought the idea was to tie the frame down so the body doesn't bounce around like a slinky. So hooking up to the rear frame as suggested lines up with that idea but hooking to the lower ball joints would leave the front of the frame bouncing?
