    67 vinyl covered hardtop

I've restored my 67 vinyl covered hardtop with new headliner, weaterstrip, had the stainless polished, etc., but the vinyl covering (original with no tears or other blemishes) has a few shiny spots and a lackluster appearance. The shiny spots I can't explain; they just look shinier than the rest of the covering. I've tried Armor-All, shoe polish, and bumper black to even things out and to try to bring back the luster, all to no avail. What do I use to remove all the stuff I've put on and to give it a nice black, uniform appearance? Thanks.

I suggest Citrus Goo Gone, available at grocery stores and drugstores

i would start with a product called the Pink Stuff sold at rv stores and auto parts stores. on white i use soft scrub (would test on black first) the finish with lemon pledge spray. i have used it for 40 yrs as a dressing. i used to use mop and glow on vinyl tops back in the 70's with great results as well. i not like armor-all it is blotchy and greasy and smells like dog doo and way too shiny to look natural. if you do not believe me on pleadge try it on a small area.

I had a 67 caprice in high school that had a black vinyl top. I too used mop and glo and that top looked spectacular.

in my day (i am only 50) we went to our mothers cuboard to detail cars. i used to love jubilie kitchen wax for painted door tops and dashes. lemon joy to wash. lighter fluid for grease ink and prep-sol. in todays world of specialized products most would be appalled but i still detail like this and i think my cars, boat, snow mobiles and tractor look great after i am done and have many converts.

                    Simonize Wax

I think the most difficult thing to do as a kid..is to remove the simonize wax on your fathers car..after you let it dry in the sun.
