Okay, I give. Maybe a picture better represents my problem. Forget my previous post regarding the tunnel too. How bout a couple of folks confirming the measurement of 3 3/4" or give me what yours is. I made this measurement without the trim piece on the console face. Your car doesn't have to have a removable tunnel either--just the distance from console to front edge of cutout.

Re: C1 58 Trans Tunnel Measurement
Very disappointing effort for a site committed to the preservation and restoration of corvettes. Maybe its a personality thing, or I have BO, or something else? I am just trying to restore a complete basket case--myself! I never realized that I was the only C1 owner on this site. Now that impresses me.- Top

Re: C1 58 Trans Tunnel Measurement
Hi Bill
Don't get mad at everyone here because you did not get your answer yet. Alot of the cars are together and maybe no one wants to take apart the shifter plate to measure. Ask the question again and you might get your answer. 58 - 62 are all the same I believe so ask again. I have a 62 and the best I can do is give you a close measurement cause of the shifter plate.Did you look in the assembly book ?
Good luck ....John- Top

Re: C1 58 Trans Tunnel Measurement
John, I have never been mad in my entire life so don't worry bout that--honest. The aim is useless on this particular item. If I had the original it woouldn't be an issue. And, if this repo hadn't fit so poorly initially, I probably would not have questioned things. Another post will make my third and I fear someone will think I just cannot let go. I am going to just go ahead and complete my "reconstruction" of the repo tunnel and hope it fits close to the old tunnel image left in the floor--maybe all will work out. Worst that can happen is that It won't align when I finish painting, do the bodydrop and have the transmission in!!!!! Thanks for caring- Top

Re: C1 58 Trans Tunnel Measurement
Hi Bill
Is your main concern the distance you show in that picture to where the shifter opening starts? Are you worried about shifter clearance? If that is the case,I would not worry about it.If you have the tunnel all lined up and it fits good then continue what your doing. If after you install the tranny and shifter and you need alittle more clearance, just trim the fiberglass at the opening till the shifter does not touch. From my little experiance with replacing fiberglass panels, I believe most still need some t******* to a certain degree. I know when I ordered a new package tray, I had to drill all the holes my self.I just measured the distance between the shifter trim plate and the trim going around the bottom of the fiberglass piece where the clock, radio, etc. mount and I have 2 1/2". If you have those pieces, put them in place to see what measurement you get and if the opening clears the hole in the shifter plate.
Bye...John- Top

Re: C1 58 Trans Tunnel Measurement
John, thanks a zillion. I am going to check the 2 1/2" measurement with the trim plate. I feel that it only needs to be reasonably close as I am sure I can later adjust the shifter/shifter rods to avoid bumping. This repo tunnel is actually a horrible fit--after I reconstructed it fits perfectly. I just was not comfortable with the fore-aft location of the cutout. I am fine now with your help. Thanks again John.- Top
