I've decided that this years winter project will be to replace the heater core in my 62. I'm assuming that all suppliers are selling the same replacement part. In addition to the heater core what else should I replace or order new? I was planning to order new seals and possibly new fasteners. The original brackets are still in place and in good shape. And of course, I ve decided to order hoses with the correct markings. I already have the correct clamps. Any advice or anything I should know to make this project go smooth? Thanks in advance! Jon

Jon, After a couple months on backorder...
...from Corvette Central, received their latest rendition of a C1 heater core. It is of a different type construction. Looks more like a small oil cooler. I think as installed it will look and function just fine and may last forever. It has not been installed as yet, so cannot comment on that aspect. I do not know if this is all that is now available in reproduction or not. I have no problems with it but others may. It sho aint gonna have a date on it... -

I'd get a new heat control valve too since you're going to have that area all apart.

What I did for my 62 heater core was, I had it recored at my local radiator shop. The core material is alittle different but i'm using the original ends. Works and looks great. Make sure you remember or write it down just how everything goes back together so you won't have problems with fit or operation of the levers.

The AIM has the heater hoses attached at both ends with Corbin clamps. I don't know what you think of Corbin clamps, but I don't trust them. When I did mine, I used stainless screw clamps at the heater core end, and I doubled them up. The Corbin clamps were only used at the engine end. Marine places sell stainless screw clamps. I think I've seen them at Home Depot too.
There's a 90 degree elbow that goes in there. One of the vendors sells it without ridges on the ends. Another vendor's elbow does have the ridges. The ridges help hold the hoses on.
You've already got the seal kit. You can also buy a kit to rebuild the felt seal on the flapper door. There's seals that go on the heater hoses where they pass through the firewall. You'll see them in the parts catalogs.Comment
