I am wondering if anyone knows/remembers a St. L. worker named: Charles Hillis Hurt on the engine to chasis assembly line. He is the fellow on page 28; and 359 in the big book. I am currently working with his grandson Pat Gillpatrick and he is searching for any info or stories from the plant. The fellow across from Charles in the picture on 28 is Albert; a good freind and coworker of Charles. Thanks for anything. David Harris

Re: plant workers
Davis Harris,
To your question about Charles Hillis Hurt, I can state that I not only knew him but his son Charles (Chuck) Hurt. Chuck is a very good friend of mine who now lives down by Lafayette, TN after retiring from GM, Bowling Green, KY. Chuck started at the St. Louis plant in 1964 and I broke him in on the operation in Trim that installed the rear blower in the coupes. It was after that point in time that I became aquatinted with his dad. Chuck & I worked nights while his dad worked the day shift.
If I am correct, Pat was with Chuck & I deer hunting one time on Charlie’s place in Mexico, MO. Charlie lived down on Grand Blvd. in St. Louis, MO. I may be incorrect about this but I remember one of chuck’s younger family being with us and I thought his name was Pat.
The page references you gave I can not verify because I have Noland’s Vol. I Book, first Edition and Charles picture in on page 126 lowering a motor into a 57 Chassis along with Wendell Baker who in on the left side of the line. This leads me to believe that we are looking at two different books.

Re: plant workers
Thank you so much Tony;
I will talk with Pat tomorow and see if he remembers you. Pat said his uncle Chuck is 64 now. The book I was refering to is the vol 2 Noland Adams book.
Pat is blown away by all this publisity and notariaty of his family being so important to the restoration of cars that were; to his Grandfather and uncle and to you and other workers just something that hapened at work. He wants every book that he can find pictures of his Grandfather and uncle in. He has shown the book to his mother inlaw(Chuck's sister) and the pictures brought tears to her eyes.
People like yourself are now the final word on so many details that people fret about and get wrong. You have become hero's for people like me and Pat Gillpatrick for 2 diferent reasons. Thank you so nuch for responding, it will make his day tomorow.
David Harris: yellow 65 fuel coupe, s/e, no radio; and the rear blower still works fine! Thanks to you and Chuck; maybe.- Top

Re: plant workers
David,
You mentioned that Chuck was 64 years old. I bet he wishes that were true. Chuck and I where both born in February of 39 and he is 9 days older than I am.
I do not have a Vol. II but I bet I can find one to look at. I was in the NCM yesterday and I saw the picture that I refereed to in Vol. I on the wall of the NCRS display. It's funny sometimes how things work to bring good memories back to you.
Just a little bit a fun here, I still own the 1959 Corvette that Chuck & I rode to work together in when we first started working a St. Louis. I bought it when I got out of the Navy in 1961 from Barford Chevrolet in Clayton, Mo. It's a 290hp FI with Metallic Brakes that was raced and had a SCCA inspection sticker on it when I purchased it. All I wanted was a fast Corvette but it looks like I bought a real “Jewel.”
Tell Pat that he can e-mail me if he wants Chucks telephone number or other information.

Re: plant workers
Tony;
It seems I was wrong about Pat's "Mother-in-law"; Charles Hillis Hurt is his Mother's father. I'll ask about chucks age tomorow, he did not sound sure when he told me 64.
So you are saying that Pat's Granfather's picture is on the wall at the National Corvette Museum!!! WOW, we allready have Pat in tears now, I'm afraid to tell him this news.
The vette you have is probably a cool $150,000 now, that's got to feel "ok". Thanks again. David- Top
