    63 repro consoles.

A friend of mine asked me what I thought of the repro 63 console. Can anyone tell me how it compares to an original? How does this repro part stack up with NCRS judging? Does it fly or does it take the usual hit for a repro part. Would you put it on your car if you didn't have any at all? His plan are to have the car flight judged and maybe go for a Duntov.
Also is there only one person making this part? Thanks, John D.

John, I have not seen a repro, but as I recall the cost to buy a repro is the same as having an original restored (+ or -) a little. I have seen a restored console by Andy C. and it looked great to me.

            Harry,
Restoring a 63 console can be difficult. I had mine restored and the finish came out very nice, however they could not remove all of the scratches and marks from the old console. I like to use original parts when I can an accept that a 40+ year old piece is not going to look perfect. A friend of mine had a repo in his 63 and wasn't happy with the fit. It looked ok but he complained it didn't fit very well.

Nancy and Charles, Thats exactly the kind of info we are looking for. So the repro doesn't fit well. Yes Andy does a wonderful job on those consoles. Trouble is my friend doesn't have a core. Luckily my own 63 has the original unrestored console and just has one minor ding and is going to stay that way. Thanks very much, John
