Re: 60 grille bar and teeth, Repo or Rechrome???

I originally bought a set of repro teeth and bar, but I never got a good fit between the two-just couldn't make them look good (the teeth didn't fit tight against the bar like the originals did) so I sold them and sent my originals off to be re-chromed. This way I know the entire bumper will fit the way it was supposed to. Maybe I got a bad repro set, but now you have my $.02.

I tried to email them for a current price list and the email was returned. I'm looking for a plater near Kansas City, MO.

I have used Corvette Specalties of Maryland and had no problems. Slight deduction on the teeth, if I recall correctly. I'd have to refer to the judging sheets. Got Gold, but the rest of the car was very good. If your car is restored to the book, these minor deductions won't make a difference in getting the top prize. As long as the major points contributors are correct, the teeth won't make or break you, in my own opinion.

            Good Luck

Bill, I have been thinking over your dilemna and agree with a lot of the members that you should get your original teeth rechromed. Yes it will be more cash but you'll have that. So what- you ain't poor. The end results will be well worth it.
Try a local plater near me as they do a lot of the plating for the big name shops. In other words the rumor is that some of the big name shops sub their small stuff out to: M&P Refinishing,704 Clay Ave, Jeannette, PA. 15644 724-527-6360. Don't spread the word on this though. ssshhh. Family run and very honest people who know what we want. They specialize in pot metal also. Not cheap but top notch show chrome. They can do the midyear and C1 small bumpers but not the longer ones for the C3's. They don't do zinc or cad which is a shame. I tried to talk them into it but failed.
I use them all the time for the balance tubes, oil filler tubes, etc for the midyear FI's. Never had a problem. Used them for my 63 show car also. Pay once and you are done. Mention my name when you call. Meanwhile when I send them an order I don't bug them. When the job is done it's done. They are very busy and like that about me. I UPS everything to them even though they are only 5 miles away. Why waste a half day running around when you can have more fun wasting it on these forums instead. JD

Concur, you should go with the originals, assuming they are in reasonable shape (not too many or deep pits) to rechrome. If not, try to find a good used set of originals, even if they need to be rechromed.

One word of caution. I have seen a lot of rechromed teeth where significant detail was lost when sanding / polishing for the rechrome effort. Pay particular attention to the sharpness of the front edge of the teeth. Run your finger over it to understand how sharp that edge is. Too many come back from the plater with that forward edge dulled by sanding / polishing prior to chroming.
