Re: 60 grille bar and teeth, Repo or Rechrome???
Hi Bill
On my 62, I had everything rechromed. When I compared a repo front bumper to mine, the repo felt lighter. I know money can be an issue but personally I would rechrome everything and stay with original metal. Plus you know your pieces fit correct. Also I was told that the rechromed pieces would have a better durable finish than repo and would last longer..Plus repo pieces might be made overseas.Check around for other rechromers and prices. I sent some of my pieces out of town.
Good luck...John- Top

Re: 60 grille bar and teeth, Repo or Rechrome???
Had the same issue in 1995 when I rechromed items. I had the bar rechromed, and got new teeth. Then it was $25 per tooth so I opted for a new set for less $. I was told by my first supplier they were USA made. Got them and had "Taiwan" written on th box. Angrily sent them back and got USA made teeth from a new supplier. At that time the best were made in USA. I cannot recall where I got them, I think Corvette Central, but I would be careful about imports. Not sure about quality today.
I see CC still shows USA made in their catalog. Not sure of the other folks.
Also check Areba Services chroming. Pricelist shows $39 for each tooth! Wow, that's $507 for the 53-57's, $351 for 58-60. Hmmmm, $351 rechrome, apx $190(new usa), $140(offshore).....decisions, decisions. You can always sell the used ones. Got $100 for my old driver set not long ago.

Re: 60 grille bar and teeth, Repo or Rechrome???
I live in the midlands of South Carolina and sent the chrome for my 1961 Corvette to Lemon Grove Plating Company in National City, California. I do not think that Lemon Grove is still in business. I prefer to refurbish original parts rather than buy reproduction. I would shop around for a plating company that would give you what you wanted at a price you were willing to pay. Replating prices are roughly around what it would cost new. The quality of some of today's reproductions are not worth putting on your Corvette.- Top

Re: 60 grille bar and teeth, Repo or Rechrome???
The condition of your original teeth, and the abilities of your plater, will have a profound effect on the results. The process involves:
1. stripping the existing plating off the item
2. Ploishing the item
3. Repairing the item
4. Copper plating the item
5. Nickel plating the item
6. Chrome plating the item
The polish/repair processes are the critical steps. The better the teeth, the less polishing and repairing will be required. If the teeth have deep pits, the plater may elect to grind/buff/polish them out or fill them first with silver solder, then do the gring/buff/polish routine. Obviously, if they do not do the fill step, you may lose thickness, or detail on the teeth. And still lose points.- Top

Re: 60 grille bar and teeth, Repo or Rechrome???
Bill-- repro is cheaper. You can get your grill bar rechromed if you want. I used corvette specialties of Maryland.
Tel 410, 795 3180. email info@corvettespecialtiesofmd.com. You can google them up. Their web site is not too good but they have big ads in Hemmings
I believe they make their own repros. Call them. cheaper, faster. I got a top flite on my 55 using them. Good reputable people as far as I am concerned. Ad says 149.00 for the teeth.--- Grill, bar teeth and brackedts 249.00- Top
