    54 heater def. switch

purchased the 53-57 heater defr. switch from C S of Md. for the 54 hooked it up on the carpet did not install in dash yet to just check. One speed worked fine seemed to be the high and the other had a little of noise out of heater unit like was trying to go, switch got very hot and popped breaker. There are only two terminals on this, hooked fuse wire closest to fuse side term. and heater wire closest to heater side term. and this is with flat spot on switch facing down. was up. Brad

make sure the heater motor has a GOOD ground or the motor bearing is sticking.

Sorry power has been out from storm. Roy, switch works fine hooking up both ways. (switching terminals). But only one speed. Seems I have only high because my 58 high sounds like only speed I have for 54 car. If I hook up one way It runs on the right side or high, if hooked up the other way it runs on the low side. It is just laying on the floor now for checking. Can motor alone from under hood be taken out and service the motor or do I have to dismantle everything, Dont want to do that if I dont have to. Thanks again Brad.

I don't know . It's the switch or motor, if you have a battery charger run and hook to the motor 12V for high speed then 6V for low speed and if the motor runs on ether then the switch is bad =simple !!

Roy, switch is new from CS of M. Again can motor be taken out by itself undewr hood and checked or does entire heater unit have to be taken out and taken apart? thanks Brad.

No you need to remove the whole heater, did you try 12V and 6V to see if the motor ran on both?? The car motor is the same BUT has two wires Not one like Corvette

Roy, not a electrical testing guy. What exactly hooks to what to test hi and low, pos bat term to wire coming of motor under dash and also ground of bat term to ground somewhere? Thanks Brad.
