I am rebuilding a set of leaf springs on a 1957 vette and need to crimp the seal or "buckle" on each of the three 5/8" wide stainless steel bands that holds the leaves of the spring together. I understand that the tool is a Signode model# 5823 sealing tool but they cost about $200 which is a steep price to pay to crimp 6 seals. Is there a rental tool or a used tool for sale that is available out there to perform this task? I found a used band tensioner on eBay but after 5 weeks of searching have been unable to locate an inexpensive crimping tool on the internet.
As John Hinkley and others have previously pointed out it's a standard metal banding tool, which should be available anywhere the ship pallets. Good luck, Gary....

While I haven't searched extensively, the banding tools at rentals are mostly for 1/2" wide bands, and as you know, the repro bands/clips are 5/8" wide.
A less than current Graingers catalog shows the Signode 5823 tool for about $130, a better deal than the $200 you mentioned. Signode website shows a price of $160.
The Fastenal Company (industrial/construction supplier) has a 5/8" crimping tool, part #580093, for $78.33 + 8.02 shipping/handling. Looks and works very much like the Signode. I am considering buying it, and if it does the right job, maybe we can work something out for you and other members to use it as well.
