    53-55 headlight screens

My friend needed to replace his 54 headlight screens that got mangled by some nice kid at a car show so he ordered repro's. Like to many repro parts they never seem to get it right ( they come to short ) and look flat or not good at all. I was lucky to locate NOS headlight assy complete years ago including the cast buckets, doors and screens assembled in a box. As you can see the screens follow the body curve . To often I see at meets the poor repro's people have to put up with.
Again as I've said many times many people pass up original parts for repro's because it's easy to buy and pretty , not wonting to to go through the trouble of locating original parts or cleaning parts.
After seeing mine he said he saw originals for sale but needed cleaning and cost more and now will try to find the originals .
Note; originals are not made of steel or chromed

        Roy,

Your car is remarkably beautiful! All the more noticeable in close-up.

Pray tell us what the cages are made of, if not chromed steel, or polished stainless?

        Joe

PS: Enjoyed your post above with the spug plark cleaning machine. I never saw one of those, as I am just a young puppy of 55 years (tomorrow). Do you know how it works?? It's a simple matter to clean and gap plugs..........we've all done that enough times to do it blindfolded. Can't unnerstand why a pecial contraption would be needed. Was it a gimmick, like the Traveling Medicine show, and ssssssssssssnake oil?

I really don't know what there made of but believe some kind of SS low grade material , They don't take a magnet and are not chromed . The plug cleaner was a gas station service using air and sand to clean the plugs like you can still get from your local parts store , works good because I use the original plugs in my 55 for 20 years now using the cleaner to keep them clean

Roy, I believ they are manufactured from stainless steel. I have been searching for a supplier of bulk material to cut them from.

I'll be of work from this Friday until Jan 2. I'll try to find a supplier while I have some time off. If so, I'll be providing these at a very economical price to those in need.

                              They

must be stainless, because my 55 was a "driver" for over 100,000 miles, and there's no hint of corrosion on them.
