Is there a prefered set-up as far as advancing or retarding a stock cam in a stock L36?
I have an old bushing kit that will let me install the cam gear from 0-8 deg and was wondering if this engine could benefit from a few degrees advanced or retarded...or should I just install it at zero?
The OE indexing POMLs are 110/120, which is considered "advanced". If you want to trade a little low end torque for top end power you can retard it 4-5 degrees, and this will work especially well if you massage the heads.
The same philosophy works very well with a base 327/300.
If I retard it 4 degrees will it still idle like it would if it was set to 0 degrees? I'm thinking that down the road I might want to go for a PV award and I'm wondering if this retarded setting would be picked up on?
