    Zep cleaners

You have heard me recommend Zep All Purpose green cleaner in the past. I have been using it for years in my ultrasonic cleaner. I used to dilute it 50-50 and it was sooo good. Well now Home Depot doesn't handle the Zep green cleaner anymore. SO genius here decided that the All Purpose Purple Cleaner was he way to go. Anyhow I mixed up a batch and today I was cleaning a few FI parts in it.One of the parts WAS an aluminum choke shaft. The kind that is not readily available right now. I had the Ultraisonic cleaner cooking for about ten minutes and walked back to check on it and noticed a white foam substance all over the top of the purple chemicals. Found out that was what was left of the choke shaft. The purple crap ate it.

So if any of you can find some left over inventory at your local Home Depot I most certainly would love to buy it. Zep all purpose green (pale green) cleaner. I bought it in gallons although they had it in smaller spray bottles and also in 5 gallon drums. Hope this is no way is against the policy of this forum. If it is I apologize. John D.

Maybe this is why Home Depot doesn't carry it anymore.

      Re: Zep Cleaners

Jim,Thanks for the response. But the cleaner I am referring to was not the two that were recalled. You illustrated that the purple cleaner and floor stripper were recalled yet my local Home Depot had it available less than a week ago.

Now if I had read the label on the purple cleaner like you are supposed to I would have noticed the following: AVOID CONTACT with painted surfaces, ALUMINUM, BRASS, chrome, COPPER, marble, slate, granikte, natural stone, wood, etc. as damage may occur.
No kidding I thought after the fact. That pretty much covered every part on an old FI don't you think.
So it's my mistake for assuming (u ass) that the purple was good stuff for my application. It contains sodium hydroxide and butyl cellosolve. No this stuff is not for us hobbiest at all. Maybe if you want to clean a greasy engine block or clean the oil leaking under the Chevy engines. Thanks, John

        John,
If you can get me a Zep P/N I will check with our rep. We use lots of Zep chemicals at our store and I may be able to get you squared away. They are typically here every week or so.

          John,

You are correct about the purple stuff! It is incredibly alkaline and will take the hide off of your hands if you do not wear gloves. It does however, clean the hell out of oil stains on concrete! You might want to try some simple green. I have always used this stuff to clean the underside of my cars, and it cleans well, but You do not have to wear gloves.

          Regards, John McGraw

HI John, Home Depot is pushing the Simple Green right now in the same spot on the shelve where they had the Zep All Purpose Green cleaner. So I bought a gallon and deluted it 50-50 for my ultrasonic cleaner. It works decent but not as good as the Zep stuff did. I understand that Sam's has some good green cleaner but haven't checked it out yet.
I have bought several other companies cleaners since I made this post but haven't tested them yet.
It seems that every few months or so some product that I like to use is history.
              Thanks, John D.

                John -

I'm convinced it's a conspiracy, and I see it more and more at the grocery store these days. I think their checkout line computer sends a message directly to the manufacturer of every product I really like, which triggers a panic, and the manufacturer orders an immediate and permanent halt to the manufacture and distribution of that product because I like it. Too many MBA's in their 20's in the Marketing Departments.

                  John,

Can you be a little more descript in the identification of your magic cleaner? I looked at the stock of ZEP cleaners in my local Home Depot and found several different kinds.

Some in a white container, some in a semi translucent container, one of which was a yellowish green color. It had "PINE" on it and it was stocked near the Pine-Sol so I associated it with that product.

Is that the one you are looking for?

                    Re: Zep cleaners

John, It just doesn't stop. I mean how much can a poor guy afford to buy at one time. How much can you stock up. My favorite shaving cream was discontinued. So I bought 36 cans. My favorite socks were discontinued. SO I go on ebay and buy them like crazy. The Permatex 3H thing is going by the wayside in a lot of states. This Zep cleaner. Food items you grow to like are history. Fuel injection parts-repro stuff that we take for granted are constantly being discontinued. I mean try and find a choke cover now for a 57 to 62 FI and you are out of luck unless you pay mega bucks. You can't take anything for granted as tomorrow it's gone. I guess that's part of life.I waste more time and so do my friends trying to find what was readily available a day ago. You know this younger generation is brain washed that change is the necessary evil for a business to survive. So they are constantly changing the aisles in the super market just so you can't find anything. They have college courses you know just to teach people how to screw everything up. Sorry to dump. JD

                      Re: Zep cleaners

Hi Tracy, Thanks for your concern. I have been using Zep Commercial All Purpose Cleaner. Pale green. Label says Green concentrate. Produc # HD0567128.
I have put several calls in to Zep and all I get is transferred to different departments and robots talking to me with a list of questions. Then eventually I get put on hold and cut off. Now Jorjorian told me that he found a similar product in a small spray container. I am going to go back to Home Depot tomorrow and check it out.
Pine is NOT on the label. Label is mostly dark blue. Yellow print. Picture of kitchen cabinets-wooden cabinets on the label. Was available in gallons and 5 gallon drums. I checked the web site 3 times now and couldn't find it. Like I said I called the company but the operators don't know squat. Thanks very much, John D.

                        John,

I went back this evening after work and there was nothing matching this description at my Home Depot.

Several 5 gal and 1 gal units of the Purple stuff though. Recall Schmeecall...
