C-3 68 ignition key bezel

Board good evening.
I check archives but did not see it or missed it, but what is the proper way to retore the key bezel on a 1968, is it semi black or crinked finish? Are the letters ignition brite white or are they night glow? And are any vendors around that make a good reproduction aluminum like the originals.

My 68's bezel is the original one installed at the factory. The IGNITION lettering is white, when new it was brighter that what it is now, although it still looks great for an almost 40 year old original Corvette. There is no crinked finish. Just taking a quick look at the bezel, and without taking it off it looks like it could be black plastic with painted white lettering. You know for sure that the bezel is painted aluminum?

Owned an NOS one at one time, shiny black plastic with bright white lettering.

You are correct! It an aluminum retainer thats infront of the plastic, was it black chrome ??

Mike,

That is the ignition switch nut. Once the key cylinder is removed, you unscrew the nut to release the switch from the bezel & the dash.

My original nut was a dull unpained gray metal. My original bezel was as described by the other posters.

Thats the way mine looks and its terrible. And thats how GM sent it out?
So just leave it like it is?

Time to join. How would this organization and website be available if people weren't willing to be members? If you've got the money for a Corvette, you surely can afford to join. And if you can't afford to join, you shouldn't be messing with a Corvette, because they are not inexpensive.
