Does anyone make a kit to change brakes to self adjusting? I found them for full size Chev but that is all. Seems like that would be a good seller for somebody.

Re: C1 conversion to auto adjusting brakes
Back in the early/mid 60's I bought the front brakes off a wrecked 62 Corvette. They were wide ( 2 1/2" ? ) metallic shoes. I got backing plates, drums and all hardware and bolted them on the front of a 55 Chevy. So, If you get backing plates and all it should work.

Re: C1 conversion to auto adjusting brakes
Verle--2 1/2" shoes only worked with finned drums, and finned drums had the special vented backing plates. Also, 62's never had any self-adjusting mechanism--that came in 63, although Gulf Oil used them on their racing 62's, with them reversed so that they self-adjusted as you braked going forward. I imagine that the self-adjusting wheel had to have a whole bunch of small teeth to make that work!- Top

Mike,
It has been a long time since then.
The backing plates were not vented so they may have been 2". I just knew there were a lot wider than the stock 55 brakes...and worked a lot better.
