What is the latest on PF25 oil filters concerning the embossing on the bottom? Was that type filter a assembly line only filter? Was that filter available over the counter?
Do you know when the plain bottom was showing up on production cars? Do you have a time frame that the embossing was phased out and the no embossed filter came into use on the corvettes in the 70-72 cars? Thanks
To the best of my knowledge, no one who is talking knows exactly what the original factory installed early C3 spin-on oil filters looked like. All of the information in the TIM&JG (both the 68-69 & 70-72 manuals) has been gleaned from available over-the-counter filters, thus it is suspect at best -- but it is all we have.
Best guess consensus is plain bottom began sometime in the 1970 model year. There are folks who hold different opinions, and that is why that detail is omitted from the 1970-72 TIM&JG. For such a minor detail, it is better to have no information than to print information we are unsure of.
How many points would be an appropriate deduction if the only difference in the filter was emboss or no emboss? I submit the correct answer is “not enough to worry about.”
