I remember a small clear plastic prism like device that mounted on the dash and allowed the driver to easily see traffic lights (while waiting at said light) without having to lean over the steering wheel.

My wife needs one for her new car.

They were used mostly back East where they hung the stop light on wires in the middle of the road . People that had a sun visor on their car needed it to see the light with out looking past the visor. There were many makes , Chevy restorer dealers suppliers still make them for the Chevy 55 . Here is one on e-bay an early type .

He probably has or knows where to get one.
Chevrolet access. I have had them on many '55 metal cars. Neat items that gets a lot of looks and questions.
