    54 paint codes

I will be painting a 54, the colors are Pennant Blue with the Tan interior. What would be todays correct PPG paint codes (lacquer) for these colors. I have received samples (pints at $75/pint) of the Metallic Blue Poly which is suppose to be Pennant Blue and the Pueblo Tan which is the interior color. Neither of these two colors appear to be correct. This will be a judged car so looking to be as accurate as possible. Any help would be appreciated.

Howard, old Restorer article has the following PPG (Ditzler) lacquer codes; Pennant Blue 13552 and Shoreline Beige 23620. If these color off sets don't work, send me an e-mail and will hook you up with a 53-5 restorer who's painted a Pennant Blue car. Good luck, Gary....

Gary, did I give these colors to you once? I gave them to someone a couple of months ago.

      Can't remember who though.

I found them if anyone needs them. All colors and supplier codes.
Just email me and I'll send you the file.

          Re: 54 paint codes

I have the code for the Metallic Blue Poly (11238) and Pueblo Tan (21055), At least I think these are the codes from the color chart. I called a supplier for PPG and had them mix a pint of each . When I received the paint they do not appear to be the correct color. The Blue looks more like a Nassau or Marina Blue and the Tan looks like Pumpkin . I think the Blue should been more to the green side and the Tan more to the gold. I will look at the codes you suggested. I think I may have these also and found them to be too dark without enough green in the blue and way to brown for the tan. Would you have or know of anyone that has color chips of the correct colors. Or If you might know of someone in the New Jersey area that I could contact and possibly go see a Top Flight car. Thanks

You do NOT want shoreline beige. I have a door pull with the origianl interior tan that could be used as a match. I would not call it pumpkin or gold, but more brown.

I have the same codes from Ditzler form 5409 Rev. 3-56 and agree that the blue color does not look correct. I also believe that it should have more of a green shade. I have been unable to find a Ditzler chart from 1954 that includes the pennant blue color abd have been told that it was not included in the color chips until later. The Pueblo Tan color is definitely not correct for the interior.

Wayne, Thanks. The steering column has enough of the tan/gold color on it that shough be sufficient to do a color match. However the Blue is another story, the car is totally stripped, gelcoated and primed. It had been repainted and the color was totally incorrect. Unfortunately there is no trace of the original blue that we could use as a color match.

I'll keep trying to find a top flight car that I can look at or if someone has a sample spray out card or paint with the correct color that would be great to get a hold of, if only as a loned item.

Yes, the Blue is too Blue and the Pueblo Tan is not even close. Was a waste of $75 to have a pint of it sent. Maybe E-bay for the paint !!!!!! could bring more than the $75 !!!!!

I have a recent color match code to an original Pennant Blue piece. I'll find it and post it this weekend.

I also have the tan color matched as well.

                        Re: 54 paint codes

                        Here are the codes.

                        Pennant Blue
                        Dupont
                        GM 233

                        Tan
                        Dupont
                        B8872A
                        Code 57

These codes were sample matched from original paint samples from areas of the car that did not receive sunlight. They are very correct, in my opinion.

                        Hope this helps someone.
