I know that 1966 was supposed to be the first year that option V74, four-way hazzard warning switch was installed but my late 65 has it and it sure looks factory installed. Could it have been put in a few 65's at the end of the production run?

Re: Four-way hazard warning switch
My vote is no (did factory install).... The option wasn't on the dealer order form in '65. More likely it was added after the fact. Only possiblity I can conjure would be if car went through engineering as a test vehicle and was subsequently disposed of. Even then, NCRS judging rules would put the burden of proof upon you, the owner, to document an event that runs counter to accepted production norms of the era.- Top

Re: Four-way hazard warning switch
Mike---
I think that it's very possible. In fact, if 1965 Corvettes received a hazard flasher unit, the switch would have been GM #986294. For 1966, this switch changed to GM #986639. GM #986294 was discontinued in May, 1966 and GM #986639 was discontinued in May, 1967. So, you don't want to need one of these switches. However, if you do, the 65 switch was also used in 1965 full size Chevrolet passenger cars and the 1966 switch was used in full size 1966 Chevrolet passenger cars.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: thanks for your help
Mike----
I would not be too quick to remove it. If this were a "first year" factory installation, it could be rather crude. I totally agree with you on the point of not understanding why someone would add such a device to the car. I don't understand it, either. In fact, that's one of the reasons that I mentioned that I thought there was the possibility that it was factory-installed.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
