    Interesting noise.

Hello all, my base engine '74 with auto tranny has developed an interesting noise. It sounds like a dry lifter (increases and decreases with rpm but not as metallic)and is coming from under the right side of car about 3/4 back from the front. It is not related to motion since I can hear it when I put the car in gear with the brake on and rev it up to 1500-2500 rpm. I thought the sound may be telegraphed back from the engine (you can only hear it from inside and outside the car, not the engine compartment) but the lifters, heat riser, and fuel pump aren't making any noise. I plan to get the car up on a lift next week but any advance info would be appreciated. Thanks, Bill

    Hi Bill

Check your exhaust manifold gaskets. You might have one that blew out and it does sound like a lifter tappet noise. I had it happen to me.
