    1954 Corvette ?

I asked this once before, but I'll ask it again because I haven't made a decision.

I just ordered the complete wiring harness assembly from Lectric limited for our '54. As you know, '54's came from the factory as a 6 volt car.

Somewhere along the way Bubba switched it over to 12 volts and blew most of the dash lights, clock, fuel gauge, and the Wonderbar Radio out. At least he put a resistor on the heater motor and didn't blow it out, too.

I want this to be a reliable but fairly correct car. Some day I might want to get flight judging on it, too. Since I can go either way, should I return it to 6 volts like our forefathers originally intended, or should I enjoy the benefits of 12 volts? Besides getting points taken off, what would be the pros and cons from you experts in the field? One of the reasons I like the 53-54's is because no other Corvette's came with 6 cylinders, side curtains, screens over the headlights, rocket ship tail lights and a rear license plate behind plexiglass in the trunk lid. Should I also include 6 volts in that list?

    Thanks,

    Randy?

i'd keep it original. if the engine is rebuilt and broken in, the 6 volt starter will spin the 235 without problems. the ignition and carbs need to be adjusted properly for correct starting. mike

Yep, go with 6V. No real advantage to changing to 12V.

I agree. Best left as original. Like Mike said, as long as your timing and starter are in tip top shape, you'll be able to drive and enjoy your car.
