1970 Corvette, build month is June. What is the LOF date code? LT?

    Thanks,
    Scott

    From your copy...

of the Judging Guide, the LOF date code sequence is Month/Year. L = March and T = 1970

So, what you're saying is IT is correct windshield date code for a June built 1970 Corvette? The JG under Windshield is silent but on the Side Glass portion the codes are specifically stated so I assume this to be applied on all 1970 glass. The 1970 Corvette Registry indicates that IT is correct and the Rowlett Corvette Web site seems to also confirm that learning this only after posting this question.

        Thanks,
        Scott

The codes for both windshield and side glass are the same, so the editors of the TIM&JG probably thought repeating the codes was not an efficient use of resources.

Glass is very unlike other manufactured components where the component date code precedes the car build by a predictable range of weeks. Consequently, judging is has been less stingent on glass, with any date within the preceding year of the car's build date being allowed as original...at least that has been my observation in the past; I'm not sure what judges or the judging references look for now.

Because assembly of manufactured components has historically proven to be a random process, I doubt that anyONE or any source can say precisely what the "CORRECT DATE" would be for glass or any other component, but a correct range of dates can be opined. If the registry shows a consistent pattern of glass codes preceding the build date by about three months, then that's a pretty good indication that other cars in that VIN range will have similar date codes.
