    Judging schools and seminars....

What is generally covered during these schools/seminars?

I'm thinking of taking in either the Judging School or if time permits, one of the seminars at the meet in Kissimmee next month but before hand I'd like to know if it's "worth it". I say "worth it" because I get the impression that a lot of it will pertain to C1 & C2s so if that's the case there won't be much I'll be able to relate to with my 69....see what I mean?

I contacted someone in the Florida chapter a while back to see what the agenda was for each session and he said that there isn't an agenda. I asked if body paint would be covered and he said no...so...at this point I think it would be something that I'd like to attend but if very little pertains to the 68-69 Corvettes then I won't really get much out of it and I'll pass.

Can anyone enlighten me on what is normally covered at these sessions?

    Thanks.

Generally there is a high quality car available from each era, sometimes more than one, and after general work on how the judging system works, and other common issues, time is spent in smaller groups with a car or cars representative of the four major eras currrently being judged. Usually the "example" car is either a well restored car or a "Bowtie" depending on availability.

        Greg,
Bill Clupper is describing the basics of the Advanced Judging School. It is an all day event which basically proceeds as Bill describes. We will have an opportunity to put a car of each generation C1 to C3 and maybe a C4 on the lift in order to examine the chassis. The cars used are dependent on who bring what cars, and we try to use cars that have already achieved the Bowtie award, if they are available. Failing that availability we will use a Duntov/McLellan award recipient. There is no agenda because the sessions are lead by master judges and what goes on is not scripted. What takes place is dependent on who is present and what questions they ask.

Sometimes the Florida Chapter has other seminars that deal with specific facets of judging. Al Grenning and Roy Sinor have presented their trim tag seminar there, and Tom Aimes (Tom, I'm sorry if I have misspelled your name) has presented his paint seminar there. If they have nay of these scheduled for 2008, or any others, someone involved in organizing that event will have to chime in.

To attend any of these seminars one must be a registered participant in the event.

Okay thanks guys that sounds like it's worth attending. Unfortunately for me though is that I can only attend the meet on Thru and possibly Fri morning...

I see that there is a Judging School at 4pm hosted by Roy Sinor. Does anyone know how long it would last and what it would cover?

I would really like to attend the Advanced Judging Seminar on Fri but if it's an all day-er I won't have time. The schedule shows it from 9:30-11:30 and again from 1:00-3:30 so is this the same seminar repeated for convenience sake or is this just one seminar with a break for lunch?

Roy's judging school (worth 1 judging point) generally lasts 1 to 1.5 hours. You would have to ask Roy about the subject.

The advanced Judging School is one all day session with a break for lunch. In order to get the three judging points one must attend both morning and afternoon sessions. That is not to say you will not learn something in each session, and there are sometimes a few people who can make only part of the day for a variety of reasons. We don't hold anyone prisoner if they want to leave.

Well thanks for filling me in on how these schools/seminars work but due to time constraints I'll have to pass. I'll know better now for next time though and plan things a little better.

What is the Blue Moon anyways....almost afraid to ask.

Blue Moon is a watering hole at Old Town ! I'm not sure of the meeting time. Check with Dick and he will fill you in, there normally is quite a group for this event.I don't know how many points are awarded for this, but I think the guy with the biggest bar tab wins!
