    Cad Plating

When I was working, one of the areas I was responsible for was our plating area, we ran copper, Zinc, Tin, lead and Cad lines at least thru the early 70's. As John pointed out, Cad was much preferable to other platings and was the only plating that would actually meet the GM specs for underhood corrosion protection. As the technologies changed, we were able to move other lines away from the cyanide based baths that were typical in the early era, but as I recall, the Cad lines were the last to change.

        Don,

You are probably right for most cars, but not all.

I drove my 57 about 5500 miles this last summer, including Bloomington in June, the National Road Tour from Oklahoma to Boston in July and Carlisle in August. The car, my towels and I all got very wet more than once.

Another guy and his wife drove their freshly restored 57 from California to Boston and back.

So a few of us out here still drive our old Corvettes.

        Mine is the white one.
