1962 odd Bracket

There is an odd bracket on the left side my engine block that I cannot figure out what it is or did. I can send someone a picture if they care to try to figure it out.

Roy,

Thanks so much. This is the original engine out of '62 #399. It is ready
to go to the engine rebuilders. The PO, did have a engine block heater on
the car, but it came in through the block drain on the right side of the
block.

Dave, Maybe some aftermarket gadget to hold the oil filter o-ring so you don't drop it in the dirt!:-)

Seriously, It looks like it has tabs that would bend over some other gadget and hold whatever it is in place?????

That was my first thought when I saw the picture, it is screwed into the clutch cross shaft pivot but I don't recognize the bracket.
