To every one your opinion please

I think this is a good question to ask members . Most know I'm into accessories and some after market items and there has been discussions about this. Many people like or dislike any thing to do with a Corvette other then the way it came out of the factory as NCRS states in the JM. So when we entered our 1955 for judging in the 05 National meet that year honoring the 55 , we felt we were only (showing) the 55 never thinking or expecting any award. That was one reason we left the night before the award dinner be sides driving back to Ca. At night to beat the heat . Believe me no one was more surprised to find out later by mail we got a top flight . We were told later it was not losing points having our GM accessories, but lost a few points for the holes we may have added to install them. ( but did for the GM wire wheels).
So this bring up a point of discussion to you guys and I'm not pushing adding accessories to your Corvette as we have. The judges deducted any hole that was drilled to the body to install an accessory , not the accessory it self, by the same if any accessory was added with out drilling into the body they looked past it taking no points off. So I'm asking what would be wrong having and showing off GM accessories. I must tell you that some (and only some members) treated us as tho we had destroyed our 55 Corvette having accessories in it. That is the biggest reason we never enter the 55 before.
Bottom line is // if you have a top flight or Duntov Corvette can or will members accept seeing accessories if the owner is willing to lose a few points for holes to install them?? Other then those going for a %100 99 point Corvette!
    Merry Xmas

AS you already know the SACE answer !
I expected few to no response because most people don't wont to discuss this subject for fear others may think their falling out of line. As I stated I'm not promoting NCRS people to do anything like add or change their Corvette. Just interested how a judge would judge an other Corvette as fairly as they did mine in 05. Like my wife loves having a tissue dispenser in our 55 to use as we travel .OK take a point off but is the Corvette now a un-judge-able Corvette. I know of others that have added conveniences to their Corvette for travel reasons ( they love driving their Corvette) but then feel left out thinking they would be brandied an out law showing it. These are top flight Corvette not hot rods and have a great interest in originality .I have accepted many years ago as being looked at as a out law (ant mentioning no names "D") and it don't bother me or I would have not entered it in judging .I have always been asked to be a 53 to 57 judge when I go but have only entered any Corvette three times in over 30 some years. I have no judges hat and zero points. I'm not asking or looking for nothing but opinions. PS: SACC has many NCRS top flight Corvettes and most are NCRS members.

                            Roy,

I've been a quiet observer on this board ever since it started but never registered until early this year. I recall some of your posts from long ago, and how you're opinions on accessories got a little interesting sometimes. Oh well, everyone has their own opinions and that's expected. Yes the NCRS priority is preservation, restoration and history, but the charter also says "enjoyment".

I think the question you ask is really a tough one. Some owners would accept it, some wouldn't. I think it's really personal opinion more than anything. If someone like yourself is into showing a car with accessories then it's their call, wether or not they'd take the points hits is uncertain. A good thing is the credit system allowed for the sticker, battery switch, fire ext, driving miles, etc. If someone adds a few accessories and gets a hit, then maybe it'll be a points wash to help keep things even. I think the bonus system is there to help those types of scenarios and it's a good thing. In your case some things maybe weren't deducted. I don't know if that'd always be the case. It's really up to the judges isn't it.

FYI, I am driving my 59 to Kissimmee for the Winter Regional for Flight judging. I will be driving it there, about a 2 hour ride, my first time getting judged in almost 22 years of ownership and almost 20 years of being a NCRS member. I expect to get deducted for many things as it's not perfect by any means. I'm going there to have fun and learn and "enjoy", that's my attitude.

I for one always look forward to your accessories posts and pictures because IMO they are part of the history lesson about Corvettes and the automobile. I also especially like your technical posts about the early C1's and all their oddities, and the fact you always seem to find the time to be one of the responders when people have questions about them. That without question proves your dedication, along with all the others here, members or not, who respond as yourself and share the knowledge. I myself, and IMO I think many other folks here appreciate that. If what you're doing helps you "enjoy" it more and if it makes you happy, I think that's all that counts.

                            Regards,
                            Rich Mozzetta #13499
