    Ignition coil - 1972

I am looking for a vendor/supplier that might have for sale a Delco Remy B-R 270 ignition coil for a 1972 LT1. I prefer an original coil or a darn good NOS.

    Anyone got any ideas?

If you look for an NOS example, you're going to be looking for a LONG while and you'll still come up "dry". This coil was never available in SERVICE.

        Joe,

It sounds like I would look for a long time and still not find a NOS coil.

Do you know a good repro or rebuilt source?

Thanks for all your input todate. it has been real helpful.

        I real appreciate your help.

I will probably have more questions.

A used example might not be real hard to locate. I believe that these coils were used on other Chevrolet models besides Corvette, so a wrecking yard search might turn one up.

As far as reproductions go, I believe that this coil is reproduced under the GM Restoration Parts program. The usual Corvette parts vendors like Dr. Rebuild, etc. usually have most such parts. The GM Restoration Parts coils that I have seen looked very good. Are they 100% original in very nuance of detail? Probably not, but they are 100% new and very close to originals.

There's also Paul Baker at Goat Hill. He reproduces these coils, too. He uses a reproduction "can", all new innerds, and a "reclaimed" cap/tower (salvaged from other non-sought after Delco coils of the period and identical to those used on the sought after coils). These are excellent, too. Problems have sometimes been reported with Paul's customer service, though. Be that as it may, his coils are good.

While you won't find an NOS unit, they are available in the used market. I have purchased two of them for an average of $25 each. The only test I did on them was with an ohm meter (yes, I know it is an incomplete test) but they both worked when installed on the car. I doubt that they run the price range of some other coils, like the 202s at $150+ each, so you should find them affordable.
