It's a shame to lose mature trees....Forecast here (Ontario, Canada) is for 60cm (36") of snow, ice pellets, and freezing rain. Temp is 10*F. It's going to be a rough day. People are advised to hunker down at home and avoid travel.

Please be careful cutting up storm-damaged trees. Those bent over branches have a lot of stored energy. Also, treat every downed wire as live. Lots of homeowners get hurt cleaning stuff liek that up.
I spent most of yesterday cutting up limbs and cutting down two of the trees. Ended up with three neighbors helping. I don't have any down lines to worry about, just a lot of debris and now, several large piles of limbs. More t*******/cutting today.
Then, I have to figure out that to do with it all. Maybe do my bit for global warming and burn it.
Verle..sorry about the trees broken..it got pretty cold here in Ft Lauderdale area too..last nite had to close all our windows as it got down to the mid 50s hope Old Town is warm this year...
Remnants (entire forests missing tree tops and many bent over trees that have not recovered to vertical stature) from the ice storm that hit eastern Ontario (including Ottawa where I now live) in 1997 are still clearly evident. It'll take a long time before the impact will disappear.
Our problem here this year is record snowfall; more to date that last year's total.
I have spent several days cutting limbs and cutting down some trees; more to go. We had an ice storm about 50 miles south of here about ten years ago and, as you say, you can still see the evidence.
