I'm looking for someone with experience to help me avoid mistakes. Done many solid-axle headliners, but never a midyear.
Where do you start? Front? Rear corner "flaps"? Front to back? Side to side?
Your help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Mike
I started at the front and worked my way back. Had the most trouble with the corner flaps. One went in fine but the other wrinkled a bit where it joins the main body of the headliner. Nothing I could do about it. The wrinkles were very minor and only a problem for someone as particular as myself. Overall, I thought it would be way harder than it was. I have never touched one of these before though, so I bet your experience level will be a bit higher than mine. As with all of these things, just take your time. Good luck.
My friend Paul and I installed my headliner for my 65 hardtop. We set the hardtop upside down on a workbench with plenty of soft towels underneath. At first we tried to work around the edges but you get to a point where it will not go without having to bend it. Stop. We started over. This is so easy. With headliner simply laying on hardtop. Standing on either side of hardtop, lift the front and rear edge carefully, so the center front to back is high enough so the outside edges will simply slip under the metal frame of hardtop. This is harder to explain than do plus it is late for me. Once the outer edges are in, fitting the rest is easy. No sharp corners to deal with. Have fun. DG
